National and International work
From its small beginnings in Colaba, ADAPT has grown, consciously and systematically, into an institution, ensuring that it reaches as many sections of society as possible, especially the underprivileged and powerless.
Taking the model from city to city, today we are proud that there are centres for special education in Mumbai, Kolkata, New Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Allahabad, Dayalpur, Pune and Kochi, providing technical expertise, support and comfort to the disabled.
The range of services, from education to training to vocational training and job placement, has expanded and been enriched by many international collaborations. Individuals, institutions and government agencies from the U.K., the U.S., Sweden, Canada and Germany have provided invaluable support and training, helping ADAPT pioneer initiatives in India that the country had never seen before.
It’s a matter of pride for ADAPT that we, too, have been able to give back to the world. Our 6-month Asia-Pacific course for community initiatives in inclusion, aimed at training planners and managers of community disability services, has trained over 200 participants from 18 countries.
